How do I fix the timer on my clothes dryer?

I had liquid detergent spill over the side of my stacked washer/dryer. The detergent leaked behind the control board and caused corrosion of the wires connected to the timer. How do I fix this, and at what cost?

If the wires are corroded, they will have to be replaced in order for the timer to work properly. Depending on how old the dryer is and what brand it is, you could try to remove the panel and replace the wires yourself by going to a hardware store. Calling a technician might cost up to $200.

If you want to do this yourself:
Unplug the dryer, and remove the control panel. You should be able to see where the wires begin and end. If you are able to remove them by removing just a screw, you will be lucky and then you can take them to the store to find a replacement. You may have to replace connectors, which may be more complex and require a professional.

Don’t be afraid to try!

designg is right I fixed my dryer and my sisters it’s not hard, just be sure and get the model and serial numbers of the dryer before you check out the parts, I also go online to a lot of diy sights before I fix anything, and check out prices for parts, too. My timer cost me $24, last year and I replaced it. A dryer’s one of the easiest appliances for a novice to work on. Good Luck.
