I have a ’96 Hyundai Elantra and I’m trying to put a new stereo in it… Only problem is is that the manual I have is soaked and I need a wiring diagram to be able to wire this up the right way… Any help is greatly appreciated…
Usually your local auto repair shop will have the diagram on disk that they can print off for you.I’ve done this several times and they normally don’t charge me anything for it.

Go to pepboys or auto zone and get a haynes automotive book for your year. It has all your wiring diagrams in the back.

Buy a cheap test lite, and a 9 volt battery.
Pull the stereo out and take the plug out.
With the ignition off, use the test light to find the wire that has power going to it. This is the ‘constant power’ line.
Now turn the ignition to ‘acc’.
Ignoring the wire you just found, probe the wires again and find the next one with power. This is the ‘acc power’ line.
The Black wire is the earth.
The remaining wires should be in pairs of colours. 1 of the pairs will have a cloured line on it. These are the speaker wires. The one with the line indicates the negative speaker wire, and the plain coloured wire, the positive.
Using the 9 volt battery, brush the 2 wires across the terminals of the battery. You will hear 1 of the speakers crackle, thus telling you which speaker wires you have.
The new stereo will have it’s wiring diagram that will tell you which stereo wires now go to the wires you have just identified.
